cap accreditation 2021

DRUGSCAN Receives Accreditation from College of American Pathologists

The Accreditation Committee of the College of American Pathologists (CAP) recently awarded accreditation to our DRUGSCAN laboratory based on the results of a recent on-site inspection conducted by CAPinspectors. The inspection team included practicing pathology and laboratory medicine professionals.

The CAP advised DRUGSCAN Laboratory Director, Philip Poston, PhD, HCLD, DABCC, of this national recognition and congratulated the laboratory for its excellence in the services being provided. Our laboratory is one of more than 8,000 CAP-accredited facilities worldwide.

“Our entire team celebrates this substantial achievement that endorses our pledge of providing quality laboratory testing,“ said Dr. Poston.

The U.S. federal government recognizes the CAP Laboratory Accreditation Program, begun in the early 1960s, as being equal-to or more-stringent-than the government’s own inspection program. During the CAP accreditation process, designed to ensure the highest standard of care for all laboratory patients, inspectors examine the laboratory’s records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also examine laboratory staff qualifications, equipment, facilities, safety program and record, and overall management.

“The CAP is pleased to recognize DRUGSCAN as meeting the high standard set as part of the CAP’s Laboratory Accreditation Program,” said Richard M. Scanlan, MD, FCAP, chair of the CAP’s Council on Accreditation. “DRUGSCAN joins the thousands of others that are committed to raising the quality of laboratory services nationally and internationally.”

Congratulations to our fantastic laboratory team for this significant accomplishment that further demonstrates our commitment to partnering with clients to build healthier lives and safer workplaces through high-quality laboratory testing.
